Capital Spreads morning Spread Betting call

Spread Betting News bring you the latest insight into the spread betting scene.

The FTSE 100 is 0.8% higher at 5956.

Can the index make a run for 6000? Only the release of US non-farm payroll figures this afternoon will decide.

Simon Denham at spread betting company Capital Spreads offers his comment to those spread betting the markets today:

"Things don't look good for the eurozone yet still investors seem content with where the single currency is and that ultimately the world's largest economic area will be able to muddle through.

"Having announced a much wider budget deficit than expected Portugal is now very close to going down the route of Greece and Ireland.  Its next major round of repayments is coming up and it looks increasingly like they won't be able to find the cash themselves and a bailout is almost certain.

"Whilst investors fret about Portugal, Ireland is also having to recapitalise their banks and the ECB is only just about keeping them afloat with funding.  As if that wasn't enough Spain's regional cajas are also in serious trouble.  Many would think that the single currency was doomed, yet it keeps on rising!

"The German power house of Europe is pretty much single handily keeping the whole euro project together, but one has to wonder how much their political leaders can take as it wasn't just because of concerns over nuclear ambitions that Merkel had a bashing at the polls recently, more the euro issue.

"US markets had rather an uneventful session last night and even dipped towards the end but that hasn’t prevented enthusiasm from the bulls today.

"So far the FTSE is getting Q2 off to a strong start with a forty or so point gain.  This morning’s bounce is not only down to some bullish broker notes, in particular for BP which has been particularly weak in the last week or so, but there was a last minute sell off in the auction yesterday as people were squaring off their books and it was probably over done.

"Investors have also been encouraged by decent data from China and are looking forward to today’s biggy, the US non farm payroll."
